Support for network adapters and network shares
Support for some wired and wireless adapter chipsets.
Support for playing media from network shares (NFS and Windows) and UPnP DLNA.
Most of the work behind it's just done by custom firmwares, so it couldn't be so difficult to add.7,045 votes -

The current product is not capable of completely turning off the USB bus. The latest firmware (1.02.07) will spin down drives, but their LEDs may stay on, which can make it seem like the drives are still on.

support for more reframes on mkv files
The WD-TV only has support upto 4 reframes. Large MKV files above 12 gigs are mostly coded 5 or 6 frames. Those files cant be played because they give very choppy and blockery image.

The current product is not capable of supporting any more reference frames than it already supports.

Gapless audio
Even when the audio file itself does not contain undesirable gaps, software, firmware and hardware design often add gaps during playback. In some cases, software closes and re-opens the output stream when switching tracks, causing the hardware to create a very short "click". This problem is solved in more sophisticated designs of gapless playback.
A different design problem relates to software/firmware/hardware which are not ready to seamlessly move to the next track by the time the current track is complete. In this scenario, the listener is left waiting in silence as the player locates the next file, reads it, decodes… more

Change Arabic subtittle font
The latest WD TV Live firmware's support Arabic encoding BUT.... the font used is not a good one and viewers don't feel comfortable with it.
I suggest to change it to another one and (Arial) could be a good choice.3,625 votes -
Compressed Header in Matroska
Matroska has a compressed header feature that is now the default in mkvmerge. It works in the Popcorn Hour but not in the WD TV. And this is a standard MKV feature that works on all PC players.

feat:more subtitle options like positioning, color etc.
now its possible to set the size and outline for subs. could be much more like:
- position
- color of font
- outline coloralso, the current options should be expanded:
- more sizes (50+, its better readible for CRT tvs)
- more outline thickness options (thin,bold + medium + superbold)3,511 votes -

Add Arabic subtitle support
Currently there is no Arabic subtitle srt support. In order to view arabic subtitles we need to convert them to IDX/SUB files.
It would really help if WD could add arabic support.3,221 votes -

BBC iPlayer support for WDTV Live
This would be a MASSIVE selling point in the uk. For me it's what is holing me back from getting the live rather than just gettin the WDTV 2nd gen.

feat: set framerate/fps based on source
it would be nice if it chooses output frequency based on the source. ie 23,97, 24, 25, 29,97 , 30
ofcourse it should take into account the compatibility of the TV, since some tvs dont support certain frequencies.
should also take into account the analog connected TVs/WDs! For example if i have it set on pal, it should output in either 25, 50 or 60 fps (if im correct?).

new zooming options x1.1, x1.2 etc instead of x4,x8
maybe for pictures it is ok to have x4,x8 but for movies ? please change it or simply add 3-5 more steps with less multiplicity

v1.02.07 mkv audio out of sync
v1.02.07 Many mkv (mostly 1080p) with slight but noticeable sound delay (~250/500 msec).
Same issue on both audio outputs (WD hdmi ->TV) or (WD optical ->amplifier).
Same issue on both AC3 or DTS tracks.v1.02.03 doesn't show any audio/video desync with the same files.
