if you have the first generation wd media player like me they've already discontinued the product without giving us one last upgrade. the thing hasn't had an update in almost 2 years. WD has been constantly ignoring our requests and not giving us a solid answer. Sure they tell us they'll send it to they're research teams but to us that means that we will probably never hear about it again.

Yes, random playback. @Sheikpete, what player did you used to have that offered this feature?

I would love to have random video playback. It makes watching the videos on my terabyte so much easier. Plus its been driving me crazy not having random video playback. I never realized how much i relied on it until i couldn't use it

I cant understand what seems to be the problem here. Random playback is a very basic feature and its very sad that its not implemented yet. There is a workarround though: WDTV supports playlists. So create random playlists (I use Playlist Creator 3) from your files or directorys and put them in the HDD folder. Although this is just "pseudo"-random, cause the randomness is created on your pc before writing the randomized ordered list to a playlist file - it works. I recommend to create multiple playlists for the same "set" of videos, e.g. 10 playlists... so that you have a little more random-experience before playback becomes predictable again and you have to create new playlists on your pc. A working random feature shouldnt be to hard to code-in in the very next firmware - it's one of those tiny bit of code that would make many of us very very happy - so i still hope to see this feature build in in the very next build :) nevertheless, thanks for WDTV, my little piece of Multimedia-Heaven. (PS: DTS Downmix pleeeease (although I finally have a working DTS2AC3 Converter Package, it's still nagging having to reencode and remux the DTS files).

My old media player had random video playback and it was great! I have folders with seasons of TV shows. Being able to open a folder and allow it to play random keeps it fresh! Also very useful for music videos - get a couple of dozen music videos on random and continuous replay and you have a party! Thanks for your consideration.

You could make the repeater icon toggle between repeat-1, repeat-all and shuffle. This would be a great feature for parties when video shorts are being played.

I have video clips to play but the random option is not possible, just an option to add after the replay (during the video playing with the option button) , very simple. Morover this option is possible for audio...
